Sonoma County residents have a hot week ahead as the early summer heat in the north bay nears century-old records<\/a>. So how to stay cool? Keep reading and find out.<\/p>\n

Head to the coast or the river<\/h4>\n

Notoriously cold during most of the year, Northern California beaches are the ultimate getaway for hot weather days. Pack a picnic and some sunblock and head out to Doran Beach<\/strong>, or any of our\u00a0favorite beaches<\/a>. The Russian River has plenty of\u00a0cool spots<\/a>, too. Pro tip<\/em>: Make your way to the beach early, before everyone else \u2014 and their cars \u2014 do the same. Cool down under the canopy<\/h4>\n

Walk shaded by gentle giants in the Grove of Old Trees<\/strong>, perched high on a remote ridge top in Occidental. The grove is owned and managed by the land conservancy group LandPaths and includes 28 peaceful acres traversed by a network of wide, easy-to-walk trails. Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve<\/strong>\u00a0offers a year-round refuge for Sonoma County visitors and locals looking to\u00a0get away from it all<\/a> (parks.ca.gov<\/a><\/em>). On hot days, it’s a good spot to cool down. Follow the paths meandering through the woods and take in the sounds of nature. Pro tip<\/em>: Arrive early to enjoy the silence \u2014 sans selfie-snapping tourists on Segways. Then head to\u00a0Nimble & Finn\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0in downtown Guerneville for some cool sweet scoops.<\/p>\n

Get some ice cream<\/h4>\n

Keep the kids cool and happy<\/h4>\n

Take restless and overheated little ones to\u00a0Snoopy\u2019s Home Ice<\/a>, or spend the day bowling, playing laser tag or jumping on the trampolines at Santa Rosa’s (air-conditioned) Epicenter<\/a>. Further north, play in the river at\u00a0Memorial Beach<\/a>.<\/p>\n
